Standard Bank has started a new type of Australian bank account, which is available for offshore banking. This may be a good start for people thinking of emigrating to Australia, because it allows saving in AUD, and may have no annual fees.

This new scheme may see all Australian banks offering such an offshore account to expats, because it allows more flexibility.

Banks like Westpac already have a kind of branch in the UK, to make it easier for potential migrants to open an account and start saving in the very strong AUD, away from much, much weaker currencies like GBP and ZAR.
